Continuing our roadtrip, we chose to stop (twice) in the Okanagan. Once on the way towards Canmore, and once on our way back. Although I have just started to discover the wine country on Vancouver Island, the Okanagan has a special place in our hearts and it’s always a great place to stop for local produce, wine and sunshine!
On our first day, we left Oliver in the morning and drove towards Vernon, stopping in some old favorite wineries but also discovering new ones. With my credit card, I get deals in a lot of wineries including a lot of free tastings… This makes winery choices easy for me to do! We enjoyed the sun and got some fresh food in local restaurants.
We knew that looking for a last minute campground in the Okanagan would be tricky business, so we planned to arrive around 6PM to the spot we wanted to check out… and it did not disappoint.
We stayed on the west side of Okanagan Lake that day, planning on driving up towards Vernon the next day and get our first ‘shower’ or the trip (i.e. swimming in Okanagan Lake)!
We then drove a bit more towards Nakusp, crossing our first FREE ferry ride of the trip (living on Vancouver Island, any free ferry ride is quite exciting!). We found a very lovely rest area where we got one of the last available site (we lead a good life!) so we could rest before heading to Nelson the next day.
